Search for a bridal lehenga in Ottawa and you mostly get two kinds of result: websites based in India with an "Ottawa" page they have never visited, and genuinely good stores in Toronto. Neither lets you put the thing on this week. Choosing a silhouette
Most brides arrive with a saved image and leave with something different, which is normal. A heavily flared lehenga with dense hand work photographs like nothing else and is genuinely heavy to wear for a full day. A lighter panelled skirt in dola silk or organza moves more, sits better on a smaller frame, and is far kinder in a warm hall in July. Neither is the right answer on its own — it depends on your height, the venue, how long the function runs, and whether you want to dance.
Colour is the other decision worth taking slowly. Deep reds and maroons remain the classic and are what most Punjabi ceremonies expect. But brides in Ottawa are increasingly choosing emerald, wine, dusty rose and ivory-gold for the reception and keeping the traditional red for the ceremony itself. Seeing two contenders side by side in daylight settles it in about a minute.
Fabric, hand work and what it costs you to wear
Dola silk holds a shape and gives that structured, sculptural fall. Organza is crisper and lighter, so it flares without adding weight. Chinon and muslin drape softly and suit a less structured look. Where the embroidery sits matters as much as how much there is of it — work concentrated at the hem pulls the eye down and adds real weight at the bottom of the skirt, while a lighter scatter across the whole panel reads richer in photographs and is far easier to carry for six hours.
Getting the fit right
Three measurements decide whether a lehenga looks made for you: the choli through the bust and back, the waist where the skirt actually sits, and the hem over the shoes you will genuinely wear. Bring those shoes. Bring one or two people whose opinion you trust, not six. And allow an hour — trying a lehnga on properly, walking in it and sitting down in it is the entire point of coming in person.
Finish the look
A lehenga is rarely the last decision. Chura, juttis, a contrast dupatta and a parandi all get chosen alongside it, and they are much easier to judge with the outfit in front of you than from memory. Ask to see them in the same visit.

How far ahead should I start looking for a bridal lehenga?
Three to six months is comfortable. That leaves time to try several silhouettes, think about it properly, and get the fit and hem right without rushing. Less time than that is still workable — say so in your first message and we will be straight with you about what is realistic.
What is the difference between a lehenga and a sharara?
A lehenga is a single flared skirt worn with a choli and dupatta. A sharara is a pair of wide flared trousers, fitted to the knee and then opening out, so it reads as two panels rather than one skirt. A gharara flares lower, from the knee, with a distinct join at that point. All three photograph beautifully; they move very differently when you walk.
Should I bring my shoes to the fitting?
Yes, or at least shoes of the same heel height. Hem length is the detail brides most often get wrong, and a lehenga cut for flats looks completely different over a heel. If you are planning to wear juttis, try them together.
Can I come in the evening or on a Sunday?
